Tuesday Top 5 - Book Series Intro

by

It’s time for another Tuesday Top 5! I simply could not narrow my favorites down to only five book choices. There are so many wonderful, worthwhile, informative books on the market for the adoptive parent demographic. Likewise, there are so many unique situations in adoptive families. If I choose only five books over a broad range of situations, I would have to leave out other important books. Yes, I have that many favorites!

To remedy this situation, I’m going to do an 8-week series of Tuesday Top 5 posts among eight “more narrow yet still broad enough” categories. They are as follows…

  1. Attaching in Adoption
  2. Domestic Adoption
  3. Inter-Country Adoption
  4. Transracial Adoption
  5. Post Adoption Depression
  6. Infant and Toddler Adoption
  7. Older Child Adoption
  8. Creating Lifebooks

Let’s make it interactive! I encourage each of you to post in the comments field each week your favorite books on the given category. I have read many books on various aspects of adoption, but I do not pretend to have read them all nor do I know all of the books available. So please share your Top 5 with us!

Because I know it will be asked, here is why I am only doing eight categories: you’ll lose interest. Yes, you will. In my experience, readers lose interest after about 3-5 parts in a series. Including me. If you lose interest, that’s fine. My goal is to provide timeless (or nearly timeless) information that you can access at a later time.

For example, perhaps you’re just now starting the process of adoption. You will want to concentrate on books that talk about how to go about adopting, how to afford adoption, and read up on the issues related to the type of situation you will find yourself living when your child joins your family. If that situation is adopting an infant with your ethnic and racial background inside your own country, you probably will not be interested in my top five favorite books on international adoption and transracial adoption. You may not even be interested in reading about post adoption depression either. But once your child is home and you are experiencing the blues that often come afterward, you might remember that I did a Tuesday Top 5 on the subject and come search for it here.

See my point?

I’ll do more series on various themes and categories in the future. After all, this is still my first month here at 451Press. I’m only getting started.
